MOKUMÈ GANÈ, SAWYER DESIGN

Mokumè originated as an ancient Japanese samurai swordsmith's technique in which two colors of iron were folded together into a mass of bends and curls. A blade forged from this complicated billet was of unsurpassed strength and exhibited a beautiful, woodgrain-like surface. Instead of iron, we forge billets of colored gold, sometimes with Sterling silver and copper. And instead of swordblades, we forge the billets into simple designs with a multi-colored woodgrain surface, clean, complex and unique works of art.
